The Caged One: Part Two

June 20, 2008

The Caged One: Part Two
Breaking Free
Something snapped within the creature.
She was not sure what came over her,
Only that it was deep, calm, and resolving.
Examining the bamboo that made her cage,
She noticed a glitch
The glitch led to imperfections
How long had she been there?
Forever it seemed.
The cage had become her home.
She was linked to it and fear overcame her.
Taking a deep breath,
She took hold of the branch
With a snap, it broke in her hand
Her heart raced
Freedom!
The cage fell all around her
Destroyed and now a mere pile of rubble
She rose and stretched her limbs briefly
As a waking creature from hibernation
Then she ran
She ran through fields and meadows
Through forests and jungles
The wind flew through her matted hair
Untangling the strands
She threw herself into rivers and lakes
Washing the dirt from her skin
Cleansing her clothes
She climbed trees
And accepted their generous gifts.
No longer tortured and abused,
Wiser, but not tamer,
Now she could live
Now she would live
Nothing could stop her
No trap could catch her
She was free.
